The "HWARANG" and the "HWARANG WARRIOR"
During the 10th century of Korea there was an elite group of youth known as the "Hwarang". They were the children of aristocrats and were trained in the marital arts, history, philosophy, ethics, morality and military tactics. They were famous and revered for their intelligence and martial arts abilities. While in training they were called "Hwarang" which means "Flowering Youth". We carry on this tradition at the Hwarang Warrior Martial Arts Academies as our students study Korean, Japanese, Chinese, Filipino and Indonesian Martial Arts.
Students that enroll for at least 12 monts of training are given the title of "HWARANG".
Upon reaching the rank of Black Belt the student is given the title of "Hwarang Warrior".
THE TRAINING
THE ANCIENT HWARANG WARRIORS DID NOT HAVE AN ACTUAL FIGHTING SYSTEM. THEY WERE SCHOLARS AND STUDIED ALL OF THE CLASSES OF FIGHTING ARTS THAT THEY COULD. AT THE HWARANG WARRIOR MARTIAL ARTS ACADEMY WE CARRY ON THAT TRADITION.
TO BE A MODERN WARRIOR YOU MUST STUDY EMPTY HANDED AND WEAPON FIGHTING. NOT JUST KATA AND WEAPONS FORMS BUT HOW TO REALLY FIGHT. OUR PROGRAMS FOCUS ON REAL FIGHTING, NOT FORMS. ALTHOUGH ONE WILL LEARN FORMS, THEY ARE A SECONDARY FOCUS. IT IS ESSENTIALLY USELESS TO KNOW FORMS IF YOU CAN NOT FIGHT AND THAT IS BASIC COMMON SENSE.
TRAINING IS IN FIVE MAJOR MARTIAL ARTS AND SEVERAL MINOR MARTIAL ARTS OUTLINED IN OUR CURRICULUM FOR THE HWARANG WARRIOR PROGRAM.
THE MAJOR MARTIAL ARTS END WITH BLACK BELT TESTING FOR EACH ONE WITH CERTIFICATION FROM SEPERATE INTERNATIONAL GOVERNING BODIES.
